As the Holiday shopping season is upon us, be sure to keep an eye out for potential scams. Some scams that occur more frequently during the holiday season include:
- Black Friday/Cyber Monday Specials - Scammers lure you with an unbelievable deal to a copycat website to collect sensitive information such as credit card numbers.
- Free Vouchers or Gift Cards - Often on social media, the scammers will offer big discounts on gift cards. The site will usually require the victim to enter enough personal information for criminals to raid his/her bank account.
- Ransomware, DDoS and Site Overload - A targeted business may receive an email or letter threatening an attack on the company's website unless the business pays a ransom.
- Phishing on the Dark Side - A newer scam is circulating that tricks people into thinking they could win movie tickets for the upcoming film, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".
